Does the West Understand Human Rights?

  • Friday, Oct 6, 7pm

  • Speaker: Vinoth Ramachandra (a leader in an international Christian ministry (IFES) and an advocate for social justice in his native country of Sri Lanka as well as around the world)

  • Is “human rights” language misused in the West? This talk will highlight three myths: (1) Human rights have been championed by the West and resisted by the non-West; (2) The concept of human rights is a product of post-Enlightenment individualism and secularism; (3) Human rights can be asserted without any grounding metaphysical framework or narrative.

  • Hosted by 5CIV and the Claremont Christian Scholars

  • Founders Room (in CMC's Bauer Center North)
